Hero Datafiles – X-23

Happy Friday! Here’s a post by another guest blogger, zero. Kyle Sears’ second event is getting some love this weekend, so instead, here is a hero datafile that I haven’t seen elsewhere on the net. I’m fond of X-23’s unique and rough antihero story. Enjoy! ~ Adam

I’m zero and I created this post-NYX datafile of X-23 for free use. I created this datafile after someone brought her most recent series to my attention.

To make this datafile, I looked through back issues of her many appearances since NYX back in 2004 and also details on the Marvel Wiki Database, which I compared to Wolverine’s datafile as a base.

I asked for some advice online when I finished the first draft, which was quite broken (a cutting sfx could put emotional stress on physical stress, but she also had a Healing Factor, making her near impossible to stress out) and pulled her back a bit. Grimmshade helped me to finalise her Milestones, both based off her plot-lines from the series NYX, Target X and Innocence Lost.

History

An off-shoot of the old Weapon X program called The Facility was charged with creating a clone from a DNA sample taken from Wolverine in hopes of furthering Adamantium bonding research. The Y chromosome in the sample was damaged, so after 22 failed clones, researcher Dr. Kinney proposed attempting a female clone that would only need the X chromosome. Thus X-23 was born.

Raised at the Facility, she was exposed to radiation poisoning when she turned 7 by the evil scientist Dr. Rice to kick-start her healing factor and bone claw mutation. Her newly manifested bone-claws were subsequently removed, bonded with adamantium and surgically re-inserted while her awakened healing factor enabled her to survive the ordeal.

The Facility then trained X as an assassin, having developed a trigger scent which sent her into a raging fury to ensure she always killed her mark. Under the sadist handler Kimura,  X-23 completed her first job at the age of 11.

Eventually, after three years of hired wetwork for the highest bidder—including such patrons as Kingpin—and undergoing torturous beatings from Kimura, X was 14 when she fled the Facility with her surrogate mother, Dr. Kinney, after X-23 was ordered by her ‘mother’ to kill Rice when he attempted a coup to take control of the Facility. Although she succeeded in killing Rice, he got revenge from beyond the grave by having exposed Kinney to X-23’s trigger scent, making the girl go into an uncontrollable frenzy. When X came to her senses, she was heartbroken at what she had done to her ‘mother’. Kinney named her daughter Laura just before she died.

X-23 moved to San Francisco to live with her ‘aunt’ and ‘cousin’, Debbie and Megan. However Debbie’s boyfriend was a Facility agent under orders to cause X-23 to kill her new family. Luckily, despite crossing paths with Kimura whose skin density control made her immune to X’s claws, the Facility’s plan failed. X-23 moved on after sending her family members on a bus out of the city and out of danger from Kimura and the Facility. Her plan was to confront Wolverine, who she saw as responsible for her tragic existance.

Eventually X-23 found Wolverine and defeated him via superior tactics but did not kill him. Wolverine explained to X that he already knew about her since Kinney had written to him before her death. At that time, however, Captain America came to arrest X for the murders she commited as a Facility assassin. Eventually released due to Matt Murdock convincing Cap she was a used innocent after they hear her story, she eventually ended up on the streets, resurfacing in New York’s Mutant Town at the age of 15 as a ‘cutting specialist’ under the pimp Zebra Daddy. Eventually joining a group of teen mutant runaways, she killed her pimp and his goons to save her new companions. She is now currently working for cash in hand as a waitress in Mutant Town in a bar called Wannabees.
