I highly admire when things are excellently done, especially when it has to do with quality DIY projects and game-creation. Tonight I found something that is both these things, and very excellent. I wish I could show you pictures but you’ll just have to follow the links until I make some myself, sorry.

Bring a little do-it-yourself flavor to your game with these simple, cheap paper miniatures using Precis Disposable Heroes. They look great, require minimal time and expenses and you can customize them to suit your needs. Who wants to buy a handful of metal or plastic gnoll minis if you never know if you’re players will ever encounter gnolls again? Build them with card stock and they’ll have good heft while your greatest expense will be printing.

See Daniel Swensen’s blog World without Syn for more info and tips on how to make them. As well as a host of other props and papercraft goodies. I’ll be linking to some of his inkscapes and maps when I discuss zones and tactical combat for X-Com soon. He has some excellent ideas and examples.

This Precis set of Planetary Militia would be perfect for X-Com troopers. Likewise here is a set of aliens that would serve admirably as well. Print and fold a handful of a few species and you’ve got a game. There’s also fantasy, cyberpunk, and mondern/scifi sets from Precis Disposable Heroes if you’re interested in that. I’m tempted to make up a set using the art of aliens and X-Com troopers from the original game. I’ll let you know if I do.

What do you think? I’m pretty sure I’m sold.
